Okotokians can get an up-close look at some electric vehicles today (Aug 17).

The 2023 EV Road Trip, a collaborative project from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, Alberta Municipalities, and Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Initiative, is stopping in town.

It’s a free event at the Operations Centre from 12-7 p.m., meant to provide information on electric vehicles (EVs).

A few Ford and Tesla electric cars will be on-site and available for test drives.

Project Associate with Alberta Municipalities Logan Hoyland said it's meant to get Albertans more acquainted with the emerging industry.

“Most folks haven’t seen or driven an electric vehicle, so these events are about giving people a chance to test drive one for themselves and see how fast this mode of transportation is progressing throughout the province.”

He says they’ll have people from various groups and organizations on-site to answer questions about EVs and EV infrastructure.

“We’re working with several other organizations such as Okotoks Ford, Tesla, Fortis Alberta, Go Electric, and the City of Calgary, all of which will be there to help answer any questions you have about electric vehicles and the myths and misconceptions about them.”

They’ve also got some door prizes and giveaways planned.
