You might now think a policy that calls for a "welcoming, safe, caring, inclusive, and respectful learning environment" needs to be reviewed.

But Foothills School Division Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says they've decided to take a look at it as they have other policies.

"This policy came into effect probably about six years ago and in our conversations, we know our board is committed to to reviewing all of the policies, we've done one through about eight at this point, we have a total 16, but it was important for the board after this point in time, six years of a policy that we revisit it."

Over the course of this year, they'll take a deeper dive into that policy and look at whether it still serves the needs of the community and if not what changes need to be made.

"As we progress through this engagement there will be different opportunities for the community to engage whether that be online, there'll be some working groups structured, but we'll communicate that out over the course of the school year and continue to gather feedback with a plan to have, whether it's completely re-written or edited, depending on the voice that we gather, we have a plan to bring that policy to a board meeting in late April."

Fuzessy says the draft working title for the new policy is A Flourishing Foothills Community, A Place for All.
