The Reeve of the Foothills M.D. council has decided to run again in this fall's election.

Larry Spilak has been on council six years, the last three as reeve.

He says the new four-year term was a consideration in whether to go again. "Actually it did weight on it but certainly didn't discourage me. The most important purpose for my wanting to run again is the land use discussions that are going to going on for the next two years."

He says the M.D.'s been challenged by many factions and the Calgary Regional Plan is only which is challenging their autonomy. "Calgary's requesting annexation discussions as well as Okotoks and while we're prepared to work with them we must be sure to protect our landowners rights during the negotiations. Spilak added "Our staff is also currently working on a land use strategy that will direct where and how growth will occur and the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan is another that we expect will be legislated by the province this year and landowners rights need to be protected during all of these negotiations."

He counts the completion and staffing of the Priddis Fire hall and construction of the arena at Heritage Heights and baseball and soccer fields at Davisburg and Heritage Lake are big accomplishments. But he's also quick to add that with the area growing the way it is there's still a need for more.
