Many of Canada's literacy programs are being cut off by the federal government. Almost 18 million dollars was lost in programs including adult learning and essential skills.
Foothills Literacy For Life's Sue Stegmeier says it isn't just the money loss that's upsetting.
She says the cuts were totally unsuspected.
The cuts  themselves hurt but so does lack of consultation.
Stegmeier adds the foothills division is mostly funded by the province, but will still see some long-term effects from the cuts.
