Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, local municipalities and officials have been posting tributes and condolences.

Okotoks Mayor Tanya Thorn shared a post on her own Facebook page.

“I will remember the Queen for her unwavering commitment of service to her people and her duties as the sovereign and head of the Commonwealth. From her, I learned the true meaning of selfless service and admired her for her sense of duty and commitment to global peace and international understanding,” reads the post.

Foothills MP John Barlow also expressed condolences.

“It is with great sadness that Louise and I note the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  Hers was a life of great service, right up to fulfilling her duties this week when she must have felt unwell.  We join all the residents of Foothills and Canada in wishing sincere condolences to her family, friends, and the people she served so well for so many years.”

The towns of Okotoks, High River, and Black Diamond are all lowering their flags to half-mast in tribute to Her Majesty.

All three municipalities shared messages of mourning along with their respective announcements.

A few days prior, flags had been lowered for the James Smith Cree Nation tragedy in Saskatchewan.
