The Okotoks Oilers were in Sherwood Park Friday night and almost came away with the two points.

The Oil dropped a 6-5 decision last night to the Crusaders after opening the scoring and leading 4-3 at one point.

The rollercoaster ride for the team saw them take an early 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal from Hayden Fechner with the Crusaders tying it up and sending the teams tied at 1 after 20 minutes.

The Crusaders scored a pair in the second with Brett Wilson replying off an assist from Sam Huck to end the period down 3-2 heading into the third period.

The Oilers would then get a pair of goals from Jackson Rowland assisted by Fechner, and Kade Duell with a feed from Dean Spak and Owen MacNeil. The Oilers would hold the 4-3 lead for less than three minutes when the Crusaders would score three unanswered goals for a 6-4 lead.  Then, with the Oilers netminder Christian Green pulled, Rowland would score his second of the night, assisted by Rylan Brown, with 20 seconds left in the game.  But it was too late as the Crusaders would take the win and two points.

The Oilers now look to break their four-game losing skid tonight in Spruce Grove. They've struggled since joined the BCHL with a record of 1-6.

The last time the two teams met up was in Okotoks on Feb. 9 and the Oilers shut them out 6-0.
