The Okotoks Oilers of the BCHL split back-to-back games this weekend when they beat the Sherwood Park Crusaders 3-2 at home on Friday, and then fell to the Blackfalds Bulldogs on Saturday night 4-3.

The Green and Gold would heavily outshoot the Bulldogs 48-20, but it wasn't enough to solidify the win.

The first period would see the Bulldogs score just 16 seconds into the game. Okotoks would answer in the second period when a Brennen Hocher shot from the point was tipped in by forward Thomas Matte.

Blackfalds would return the favour right away scoring less than 30 seconds later. They added another goal less than a minute and a half later giving them a 3-1 lead in the second period.

Brett Wilson would find the back of the net near the end of the second to give the Oilers life heading into the third frame.

Okotoks' comeback was cut short after the game-winning goal by the Bulldogs was scored 4:10 into the third period. Oilers found the net again halfway through the third, but it wouldn't be enough with the Bulldogs taking it by a score of 4-3.

The Oilers will face the Bulldogs again at home on Sunday night (March 24) in a game that means a lot for both teams, as they try and chase the coveted third place in the standings. Whoever finishes third between the two will get a bye into the second round of playoffs.

Okotoks' next game is Friday night at Centennial Arena against the Spruce Grove Saints with a puck drop of 7:00.
