If you plan on camping this weekend, you might want to pack an extra blanket or jacket.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada Bill McMurtry says those who are spending time in the mountains Friday night shouldn't be surprised if they wake up to a bit of snow Saturday morning.

"When you live at the elevations that we do, one thousand or 1,200 or 1,400 meters above sea level, when it comes to the third week of May it's still early in the season to be expecting warm, summer like conditions and as a result we quite often see at this time of the year cool and unsettled weather."

He adds the most amount of moisture can be expected in the foothills, mountains, and southern part of the province near the border.

It's not all bad news, McMurtry says conditions should turn around by the beginning of next week.

"As we get in towards the end of the long weekend the weather system moves off. We're still dealing with some temperatures below seasonal through the later portion of the long weekend. Looks like we're seeing a warming trend on Tuesday and much of next week."
