Alberta is no longer pursuing a replacement for the RCMP.

Justice Minister Mickey Amery says his department will still consult with communities on which direction they want to go with policing.

The Commanding Officer for K Division with the RCMP which covers Alberta, Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, released a statement late Tuesday saying the force remains committed to the priority of protecting all Albertans and keeping communities safe.

He says it's reassuring to see this commitment reflected in the Minister’s mandate letter.

The Deputy Commissioner says an emphasis on providing communities with a voice in their policing services continues to remain a priority for the Alberta RCMP.

He adds it ensures they are responsive to community needs and are able to provide effective policing throughout the province.

Zablocki says their first priority is always to protect the safety of Albertans, and we look forward to working with the Minister in pursuit of this shared goal.
