A social media post on the High River Respectful Rant & Rave page caused quite a stir regarding accessible parking stalls.

The post that kicked it off was:

"A big rant to the handicapped drivers that leave their grocery carts in the handicapped stall for the next handicapped driver to put away so they can park."

Dozens of comments followed taking both sides of the story.

"Did you ever consider that maybe that handicapped driver can't get to and from the cart return after they've already got the cart, did the shopping, and returned to their vehicle?? Just saying...be kind, you never know the struggles someone else has."

"And did you ever consider that it could be very difficult for the next handicapped person that has to move it? The carts are even being left in the area left open for a wheelchair. How is that person supposed to even get out of their vehicle? Assistance is available at the checkouts, just have to ask for it. They will push your cart out to your vehicle and return it to the store.

"Oh, I consider this daily as I am a handicapped person, who uses a power wheelchair and rely on the open area to get in and out of my vehicle. But I also understand that people sometimes just need a little grace given to them because we don’t know the circumstances."

There were many ideas suggested that were both positive and negative however there was someone trying to bridge the gap with some kindness.

"Driving is not the same as walking. Some of them need the cart to walk. They can put it away but can't walk back to their car unassisted. Next time you see an unattended cart, be a decent person and walk it to the cart stall."

Many grocery and department stores have options to help those that need assistance with putting away their shopping carts.
