Vaccines will soon be made available to all Albertans over the age of 12.

Premier Jason Kenney was joined by several cabinet ministers and Dr. Deena Hinshaw on the morning of May 5th to field questions about the newest COVID measures, and to make the latest announcement regarding the vaccine rollout.

The move comes following previous steps of the vaccine rollout targeted at the most vulnerable Albertans.

"While we know that every single person can benefit from this vaccine, our priority has always been protecting those at highest risk first. Now that those at the highest risk of experiencing severe outcomes have had the opportunity to receive their first dose, we can offer the vaccine to all Albertans," says Kenney.

This new availability is being rolled out in two steps, with those born in or before 1991 able to book appointments starting on May 6th, and those born in or after 1992 and before 2009 able to book appointments starting on Monday, May 10th.

The staggered approach is a provision to avoid overwhelming the booking system.

With this latest announcement, 3.8 million Albertans will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

This makes Alberta the second province/territory to offer vaccines to all residents over the age of twelve, second to the Northwest Territories.
