The Town of Diamond Valley took to social media on February 27, informing residents that their waste service rates will be increasing slightly on March 1.

The announcement has caused a bit of a stir amongst residents.

While the rate for garbage pickup and the program fee are remaining the same, the rates for the recycling and organics/compost bins are going up.

The rate for recycling will be going up from $12.10 per 2-month billing cycle to $13.46, for an increase of $1.36.

For the organics/compost bin, the rate will be increasing from $12.20 per 2-month billing cycle to $15.36, which is an increase of $3.16.

As of March 1, the total cost for waste services in Diamond Valley will be $51.52 every 2-month billing cycle.

Because of this, several Diamond Valley residents have voiced their frustration over the rate increases on the town's Facebook post regarding the new rates.

"15% increase is not slight. (10% on blue cart and 20% on green)," reads one of the comments.

Additionally, from November 8 to April 3, the organics/compost bin is currently only collected every two weeks, and there was no mention of whether that would increase or not.

That is one of the more common complaints made on the Town's Facebook post.

"Where can I return my organics bin? I've never used it. All it does is take up space in my yard," posted one resident.

"I’m surprised that the bin that is only picked up 78% of the year is going up the most," reads another comment.

These rate changes were passed by Town Council on January 17.
