Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau's economic statement Tuesday didn't make a lot of friends in the west for the Liberals.

Foothills Conservative MP John Barlow says it just shows the lack of progress that's been made on the job front.

"They told everybody in the election campaign last year that we're going to go into a modest deficit, these modest deficits are going to create jobs, well now we've seen that there's not one full time job that's been created over the past year and not only does this show that their plan isn't working but they are adding another 31.8 billion dollars in debt and deficit," he says. "How much does it cost to create a job?'

Barlow says when he and his fellow Conservative MP's question the Government about what it's doing for Albertans who've found themselves without work over the last few years because of the downturn in the oil industry they hear the Liberals have compassion for what's going on.

"We keep hearing 'We've added to EI...what Albertans want is regulations and policies put in place that is going to return is back to the Alberta advantage, is going to bring investments back to Alberta's energy sector," Barlow says. "Albertans want jobs, they want to be working they don't want extensions to EI."

Barlow says it's exactly why his roundtable discussions with constituents next week is so important.
