The High River library is expanding its public reading space, with an outdoor patio.

Library Director Mary Zazelenchuck says this project has been on the back burner for awhile.

"It's been a legacy project for the library ever since I've started, and has been in the works for several years."

Initial funding for the project was granted through a $25,000 Co-op Community Spaces grant.

The finished project was a collaborative effort from Ethan Karter Construction Ltd., The Friends of the High River Library, The Town of High River Library Board and the Town of High River.

Zazelenchuck says they're finally nearing the completion of the long awaited patio.

"We plan to have some furniture available, installation of the railings and a wheel-chair accessible path ready to go, for its opening day."

The library will open its public access to the patio on Wednesday August 8.

To celebrate the opening, a Patio Party will be held from 5-8 p.m., featuring a free BBQ, games and outdoor activities and fun.
