The Calgary Stampeders have unveiled the special helmets they'll be wearing Saturday against the Ti-Cats in Hamilton to recognize First Nations.

Saturday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The designers are Dr. Tyler White, CEO of Siksika Health Services, Richard Running Rabbit, and Jacob Alexis.

The Stamps have designs on their helmets including a braid that goes from front to back.

Dr. White explained the significance of the braid is that when children first entered residential schools the first thing that happened was the braid was cut off.

There's also a war pony on the sides of the helmet with a lightning bolt denoting speed and agility and the hand is to signify residential school survivors.

Kickoff is this Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
