For the month of February, Cobs Bread bakeries have been raising money for charities across Canada.

As part of their 4th annual "Doughnation Day," Cobs bakeries have been accepting donations for the charity of their choosing.

The Cobs Centennial Bakery in Okotoks has been raising money for the Sheep River Health Trust.

"They're currently doing a month-long fundraiser for us right now," explains Christine Oake, who does fundraising and communications for Sheep River Health Trust. "So, you can go into Cobs at any point. Buy bread, buy treats, and make a donation in any amount of your choice. And that all comes back to the Sheep River Health Trust. And that ends on March 1st and then March 2nd, we have a big celebration, which is Doughnation Day."

On top of the donations received during February, on March 2, $2 from every sold pack of hot cross buns will go straight to the Sheep River Health Trust.

Sheep River Health Trust will also be on-site at the Cobs Centennial bakery on March 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to let people know about the Health Trust and how the donations will help our community.

While the Sheep River Health Trust (SRHT) doesn't currently have a plan for the funds they are raising, in the past, they provided funding for hospitals and organizations so they could get the necessary equipment, such as accurate thermometers that could help detect sepsis in children.

But, how did they choose the SRHT?

"Cobs has been in the Foothills area for many, many years and this past August 2023, Daisy Sangha took over the Cobs Centennial Bakery location, and we had a chat about this, about why she was motivated to help us, and she is an ex-nurse," Oake says. "Cobs, for this particular fundraising event, they're allowed to choose their own charity. And because she has seen first hand and she's been on the front lines, in terms of providing medical services and medical care, she is very supportive of our mission. Which is to support health and wellness in the Foothills."

The SRHT provides funding to help enable and maintain health services in Foothills County.
