The NDP says Environment minister Jason Nixon has admitted that he intends to enact new user fees for day-use areas in parks.

The NDP critic for Environment and Parks, Marlin Schmidt, questioned Nixon in a budget estimates debate Monday night about whether there would be new day-use park fees levied against families.

Nixon says there are new fees in this year’s budget.

Nixon says depending on user access and what the numbers are, the UCP government will continue to look at user fees including new fees that haven't been identified yet.

The opposition NDP says the budget makes a passing mention of $20 million worth of new or increased fees in Environment and Parks but Nixon failed to list them in the budget’s table of new fees.
