The Okotoks Oilers kick off another North Division road trip this weekend.

It all starts against one of the hottest teams in the Alberta Junior Hockey League when the Oilers head to Whitecourt to battle the Wolverines Friday night.

Whitecourt leads the North while the Oilers are six points back of the Calgary Canucks for second in the South.

Defenceman Reece Soukoroff says they'll to better themselves from their last encounter with the Wolverines when they fell at home 2-0 October 15.

"They got a good goalie he's heating up, he's got a lot of shutouts this month but I think we just have to get pucks to the net and drive to the paint," he says. "We've been working on all week on getting pucks and getting our middle drives through and getting right to the paint so hopefully we can get some greasy goals."

After their affair with the Wolverines, the Oilers will make their way up to Grande Prairie to face a Storm squad that has improved from last year's eighth place finish in the North currently sixth.

Soukoroff says there's enough talent on the Oilers roster to get the job done and come away with four points.

"We have a lot potential in this room and I think special teams is really killing us, we have to find the right personnel to be put on the ice. Because our five on five play has been awesome lately, we've held teams like Brooks to less than 30 shots a game so that's pretty good 5 on 5 but special teams really have to improve if we want to win here."

The Oilers power play is ranked a dismal 15 out of 16 in the league but have been able to compensate for that of late with one of the best penalty kills in the league sitting fourth overall.

"The South Division is really tight this year so all of us in the room know we can do it," Soukoroff says. "We just have to keep with the system and hopefully can keep a positive attitude and can keep climbing the mountain."

Game time at the Scott Safety Centre in Whitecourt is 7:30 p.m.
