The province is helping more rural and remote communities connect to high-speed internet thanks to a joint investment with the federal government.
Representatives from both governments made the announcement on Friday.
The combined $150 million contribution will help 120 Alberta communities and over 14,000 households.
Some of the communities benefiting from the funding include De Winton, Okotoks, and Taber.
“High-speed Internet is no longer a luxury,” said Gudie Hutchings, federal Minister of Rural Economic Development. “All communities, large and small, need a reliable connection to grow their potential in this digital world.”
To date, the federal and provincial governments have invested more than $370 million in 51 projects, bringing connectivity to more than 47,000 households across 333 communities in Alberta.
So far, 61 projects have been funded through a $780 million joint commitment between Alberta and the federal government in 2021.
