The Town of Okotoks has announced who’s been selected as their 2024 Sheep River Artist in Residence.

Wanru Kemp will be creating a series of art pieces at the Okotoks Art Gallery and Okotoks Library over the course of a month.

She’ll be the second artist to take on the role, following Tanya Zakarow in 2023.

Kemp was quoted in a release from the Town of Okotoks.

“I am truly honoured to be the newest Sheep River Artist in Residence. As a local artist, this opportunity is not only a personal achievement but an invaluable chance for me to engage deeply with our community… I look forward to sharing my artistic reflections on the landscape and cultural vibrancy of this region with all of you."

Her work has been displayed in galleries in Okotoks, Calgary, Vancouver, and the United States.

More information on the Sheep River Artist in Residence program can be seen on the Town of Okotoks website, and much of Wanru Kemp’s past work can be seen on her website.
