Rural Canadians volunteer more than cityfolk.

Neil Rothwell with Stats Canada says a new study shows education is still tied to civic participation, yet in small towns people with all levels of schooling help out more.

"We did find those with a higher education, those with a university level education did more in Rural Canada than the same people in Urban Canada. But also people with lower education were stepping up to fill the void."

This had puzzled officials, as rural areas tend to have fewer university degrees, while rural university graduates are almost twenty percent more likely to volunteer than urban ones.
