The Foothills Falcons basketball teams were busy last week.

Last Tuesday, both the boys and girls teams went to Strathmore, where they dominated their competition.

While the girls took a bit of time getting going against Strathmore, their defense picked up steam as the game progressed and they were able to increase the pressure on the girls from Strathmore.

Because of their defensive capabilities, they allowed Strathmore to score only six points in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters.

Aided by one of their players sinking eight three-pointers throughout the game, the girls beat Strathmore with a score of 62-30.

The senior boys game was an emotional one, as the team gave their manager a jersey and added him to their roster as a thank-you for his hard work and dedication.

The team's bench erupted in support when he scored his first basket.

The Falcons played well throughout the game and beat Strathmore 89-68.

After that, both teams competed in the Western Canada Redhawk Invitational Tournament (RIT) this past weekend.

During their first game, the girls took on Saint Mary's Saints, who they beat at the 2024 Saints Senior Classic a couple of weekends prior.

With everyone chipping in for the win, they beat Saint Mary's 77-59.

Their second game was a hard-fought battle against Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI), who the Falcons beat during a tournament in overtime last December.

The Falcons got down early in the game due to some fouls they received early on, as well as not shooting their best.

Even after closing the gap several times, the Falcons weren't able to quite catch LCI, who managed to pull ahead one last time within the last few minutes.

The Falcons lost to LCI 79-67.

During the Bronze medal game, the Falcons took on Jasper Place, who have been a perennial powerhouse.

Playing a well-rounded game, the girls were able to lead for most of the game.

The Falcons beat out LCI with a score of 64-53, earning them the bronze medal.

During their first game, the Falcon senior boys took on the 3rd ranked team in the province, the Saint Mary's Saints.

By halftime, the Saints were able to get a 10-point lead.

But, the Falcons battled back and were within three points of the Saints by the end of the third quarter.

The game stayed close until the last several minutes, where the Saints pulled ahead and beat the Falcons 85-69.

Their second game was against All Saints High School, where the Falcons played a well-rounded offensive game with four of their players getting into the double figures.

Even though the All Saints Legends started off hot, the Falcons ended the first quarter in the lead.

Once they got into the lead, the Falcons remained there for the rest of the game, defeating the Legends 75-49.

That win gave the Falcons a chance to compete for bronze.

During the consolation game, the Falcons took on the LCI Rams, where they were struggling with their shooting game.

The boys persevered, though, and overcame a nine point deficit with only 5 minutes left on the clock.

The Falcons secured the Bronze medal with a score of 79-73 over the Rams.

They will be heading to Magrath next weekend to compete in the Heartbreaker tournament, but tonight, both Falcon teams will be hosting Holy Trinity Academy.

The girls tip off at 5:30 and the boys begin at 7:15.
