Vulcan rugby star Keyara Wardley is back home for a few weeks before she starts training for a shot at the Tokyo Olympics next year.

Wardley has spent the last couple of years at the national rugby training centre in Victoria and was part of Team Canada's Rugby 7's win that qualified them for the Olympics.

She says training is near year round and if she wants to be an Olympian, that means, she has to give up a lot of things other 19 year olds are doing like going out with friends and partying.

"I definitely don't. We train five days a week and there's not a lot of time to do a lot. But, it's a goal I want and I'm really striving for it, so I don't mind not being able to go out with friends or anything."

She says she can't get over the support she's getting from friends and family here in the Foothills.

"It's definitely been hard on them, but they kind of like, pass it down as much as they can for me and I really appreciate that. To have all my friends support me or the locals back home is a good push for me as well to strive to be the best that I can."

Wardley heads back to the national training centre in Victoria in the next couple of weeks to start training for the new season.

She says she'll find out about a month before the Tokyo games, next July, if she'll be part of the team going to compete.
