Teams from the Foothills Lions Rugby Football Club recently came back from a Las Vegas tournament with medals around their necks.

The tourney took place just outside of Vegas and the U16 Girls took 1st place in their division while the U18 Boys and U18 Girls took second in their divisions.

Pretty impressive considering it's off-season.

Parent of 3 chirdren within the club, Jason Steel says some of the competition was pretty stiff.

"We played against Las Vegas. We played Tonga and the Tongans were gigantic. The boys team (U18) and for a 7's team they looked like a bunch of NFL players."

Steel also says it was quite the endurance test.

"So we had 3 games a day.  The games are 14 minutes each, 7 minute halfs."

And playing 7's instead of 15's the players must be in the best of shape, especially cardio since players are running non-stop almost full out the entire game.

The Foothills Lions contains players throughout the foothills and are always looking for the youth to come out and try it.

"We are always looking for players.  U13 Girls and U13 Boys, that's the group that we try to get. Once they get introduced to it, it's a whole new thing because it's just like a big group...a big family."

The season typically starts in April and runs through to either June or September depending on age.
