High River residents will get a chance to learn more about mental health later this month.

A group known as "High River Wellness" is hosting a presentation at the Art & Soul Gallery talking about mental health on Tuesday, January, 28.

Mental Health Specialist Kimberley Pohl will be hosting one aspect of the presentation, dealing with the specifics of depression and why it should not be looked at as an "ugly word."

"I'll be talking about the statistics of how depression lands in Canada, I'll be talking about the risk factors that happen with depression, the typical symptoms which tend to be more physical and the cognitive symptoms, the more mental symptoms that depression covers. I'm also going to touch on the types of different depression cause there all lots of different types, most everyone just thinks there is mild or major depression but there is actually quite a variety."

Pohl says she will be joined by two other presenters Elaine Cann who will present on "Reiki for Self-Care" and Elaine Schow presenting on "The Positive and Healing Elements of Gratitude."

During the presentation, Pohl says she will discuss A.N.T. or Automatic Negative Thinking.

"It is essentially the different negative thinking that we do automatically for example if we get called into the boss's office we think we are in trouble, we think we know what they are going to do.

The presentation will be held at the Art and Soul Gallery in High River on Jan 28th from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Pohl says everyone is welcome to come out.

"We call them Mental Wellness Educational Seminars, every month we do a different topic, mine is focused on mental health."
