The Province will be making some changes to the law around criminals being able to profit from their crimes, and it could have a direct impact on Eddie Maurice.

The UCP will introduce legislation, which would bar those convicted of a criminal offence from suing their victims, which mirror's federal laws baring sexual offenders from profiting from their crimes.

Foothills County Division two Councillor, Delilah Miller, says she made the suggestion to Justice Minister Doug Schweitzer when he was here as part of rural crime tour back in early October.

"I suggested we do the same thing at the provincial level and make it so that if they're convicted of a rural crime theft that they cannot turn around and profit from the crime. So, I'm really pleased that the Province has taken my suggestion and by the looks of it going to put it into law."

Maurice is being sued by Ryan Watson for $100,000 after he was hit by a ricochet from a warning shot back in February of 2018.

Schweitzer says they'll make the law retroactive to January of 2018.
