Former High River Flyer Davis Sheldon remembers his time with the High River Flyers as a great time.

Sheldon's time with the Flyers was short with only two seasons and just 51 games, however, he made his mark as a Flyer.

Sheldon is the Flyers fourth all-time leading scorer with 60 goals in those 51 games, including a 41 goal season with the Flyers in 2017-18.

The 22-year-old is also the Flyers first overall points-per-game leader followed closely by current Flyer Layne Sniher.

He also leads the team in all-time points per season with a total of 94 points in 42 games played in the Flyers 2017-18 season.

Sheldon played 42 games that year, including their playoff run which was cut short by the Coaldale Copperheads who would go on to win the HJHL final that year, scoring a total of 41 goals and grabbing 37 assists to help propel the Flyers to the playoffs.

Before his time as a Flyer Sheldon was quite close to moving on from hockey and returning to work:

"I was gonna step away from hockey in general, I went back home to work after stepping away from the junior A level, I had a few buddies that I played younger hockey with on the Flyers at the time who started bugging me to come out and give it a try and just play for some fun with some friends. I shot them all down at first but they were pretty persistent, I finally agreed to go to dinner with the coach who was Tyson [Tyson Avery] at the time, after talking things through with him, the feeling of missing being in the dressing room with the guys and playing hockey settled in, so I decided to go to a practice and carried out the rest of the season with them, I think it was nine games total, and then the next year I played the whole entire season with the flyers and I think it's fair to say it was a season to remember."

Sheldon says the season's success was built around just having fun playing hockey again.

"Honestly just going back to the basics of having fun playing hockey, it's been a while since I played with actual home town friends, junior hockey you play with a lot of different guys and you try to make friendships, so playing in front of a hometown crowd with friends that I really enjoyed and am still friends with now, it just made it really easy to go to the rink and I think just having that mindset and having so much fun, once you step on the ice everything just sorta clicks for you, also not to mention the teammates I was playing with, I was playing beside a lot of really good players so that definitely helped boost my goals on the ice."

During Sheldon's 2017-18 he played alongside some Flyers that still wear the blue and orange jersey.

Liam Bollivar, Michael McTighe, Chase Groenveld, Nic Kenndey, Logan Maclean, Jakob Jefferies, Ryan Kanten, and Connor Taylor were all on the 2017-18 roster that Sheldon was apart of.

Sheldon says he won't ever forget being a part of the Flyers organization.

"Every time I go home if the Flyers are playing, I try and go see them, and if I see them out and about there's always a hug and a "Hows it going?" It's good seeing them still carrying on playing there because its a great organization and those guys were all keys to such a successful year that the Flyers had that year, to see them take everything they know and carry on, most of them are leading that team now so its really great to see."

Sheldon's hockey career did not end in High River as he now plays at Minot State University in North Dakota.

Sheldon's words to his friends back home were simple.

"Just keep going, it's not every year that things go the way you want especially in hockey or in any sport, but I know that the Town of the High River is still rallying around them, I know that players that grow up around High River think that, "I could get to be a High River Flyer." So just keep pushing because its only one moment in time where all of a sudden things start going your way and you could end up being league champions or have a great playoff run. So just to keep pushing forward and trust each other in the process."
